Nathdwara is a town in India's western state of Rajasthan. It is located in the Aravalli hills on the banks of the Banas River in Rajsamand District, 48 kilometres north-east of nathdwara. Nathdwara, means the gate of God. It is the most renowned pilgrim of India. Nathdwara is famous for its 17th century temple that is dedicated to Lord Shrinathji (Lord Krishna). The term 'Nathdwara' suggests the 'gate of the lord'. Shrinathji Temple is also known as 'Haveli of Shrinathji' and makes a prominent pilgrimage of the Hindus / Vaishnavas.
It has above all been known for its tradition of painting and visual culture. This town is famous for the picturesque Pichhwai paintings and colourful terracotta products. The artwork industry of the region dates back to 2000 years ago. Hundreds of artists inhabit Nathdwara and paint for their living. These artists mostly live in Chitaron ki gali.
The best season to visit Nathdwara is the winter season. The temperature remains comfortable and is apt for visiting the monuments and other places of interest in Nathdwara. The best months to visit are September, October, November, December, February and March.
